The path to a broadcasting and hosting career started over ten years ago as Kent’s wit, charm and honesty behind the microphone was discovered at a local golf course.
While working at the course to make extra income, Kent started calling golfers to the tee over the loudspeaker and making announcements during tournaments. After receiving encouragement from fellow employees, he enrolled at Long Beach City College in a sports broadcasting class which led to a production position at KFWB Radio and then an internship at a local cable station. He was soon on the air reporting local sports for a daily news program.
Innovation has always been a cornerstone of Kent’s career. During his tenure at the cable station, he started a half-hour weekly sports show, high school football wrap-up show, and half-hour weekly shows for the Angels and Ducks. He covered the 2002 World Series and the 2003 Stanley Cup Finals. He also broadcast shows in front of a live studio audience at the ESPN Zone and covered races for the SPEED Channel. The next year he was hired as Production Manager for the Ducks where he created, and still hosts, Ducks TV, the NHL’s first web cast, and The Element, a 30 minute magazine style program that covered everything happening in and around Honda Center. But it wasn’t until the Ducks Stanley Cup run in 2007 that Kent’s broadcasting career started to take off.
During this amazing run, Kent reported live from the sidelines for KDOC TV, provided intermission interviews for AM830 radio both at home and on the road, and developed feature stories for Ducks TV and The Element. After the Ducks won the championship, Kent traveled to Sweden, Finland, London, Toronto and the White House documenting the player’s travels with the Stanley Cup.
The next year, Kent moved into the Ducks Broadcasting department and continued to take on a larger on-air role with the team. During the 2007/2008 season, Kent served as sideline reporter for all home KDOC games and also covered the team during the Western Conference Quarterfinals both at home and on the road for KDOC and Fox Sports Prime Ticket.
During the 2008/2009 campaign, Kent not only provided sideline coverage for KDOC, but Fox Sports West and Prime Ticket as well. During the Western Conference Semifinals, Kent covered the team from the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit for Prime Ticket. Also during the year, The Element was given the Prism Award for the top PR program in Southern California.
When not covering the Ducks or a story at Honda Center, Kent serves as a Master of Ceremonies and live auctioneer for non-profit events throughout the United States and has helped generate over $2 million dollars over the last 4 years. He also sits on the board of directors for the Anaheim Family YMCA, The Rocky Start Foundation and We Give Thanks Inc., a non-profit organization that feeds over 15,000 people at the Honda Center parking lot on Thanksgiving Day.
